Scrapbooking - Kit #01 - layout share "Connor"

This layout has a black cardstock base.  I have matted a sun ray style pattern paper by Crate Paper.  I trimmed 1/4" off two sides.  A 3" strip of American Crafts pattern paper love is layered to the left.

The photo is matted on to black cardstock, which is layered on more pattern paper.  Two doilies have been placed between the photo and pattern paper.  I have used American Crafts Amy Tangerine Cut & Past pattern paper for the big blue sky quote and Project Life cards for the title Connor and the bottom left corner.  Thickers were used for Connor's name.  Cut out pieces from one of Teresa Collin's paper ranges have been placed along the left side of the photo.  Washi tape  has been placed at the top & bottom of the page.  American Crafts Dear Lizzy Polka Dot party acetate with love hearts has been layered under the washi tape.  Three enamel dots have been stuck in the bottom right corner with mist splatters around the page.

Scrapbooking - Kit #01 - layout share "My Boy"

This layout is of my deceased dog, Connor.  I created the layout as part of my grieving process.

I matted a piece of pattern paper on to black cardstock having first cut 1/4" off two sides of the pattern paper.  The photos were matted on to black cardstock and layered on to pattern paper.  This was then layered on to doilies.  I trimmed the top off of one Project Life card and stuck that to the top of the bottom photo.

A Project Life 3"x4" card was placed in the middle to join the two doilies together.  Sequins were glued to the love heart on the card.  A washi tape strip was placed along the bottom and three clusters of homemade enamel dots were placed around the page.  I also used mists/sprays to make splatters on the bottom left and top right of the page.

Thickers were used for the title "My Boy" as that is often what I called him and what he responded to.  Finally, Creative Memories alphabet stickers were used to capture his date of birth and date of death.

The only journaling I did was to say "15 amazing years together".

Scrapbooking - Kit #01 - Putting the kit together

In my previous scrapbooking post, I talked about "How to create your own scrapbooking kit".

In this post, I'm going to share with you my first kit, which is based on the principles of my earlier post.

Here is the link to my YouTube video if you want to see the kit explained.

If you don't want to watch the video, or even if you do but would like to see the kit content photos, continue reading.

Where did I start?

Firstly I identified a pattern paper with multiple colours.  This led me to select a few other multiple colour pattern papers that I felt coordinated.  These base papers had a variety of colours that would coordinate with many other papers and would go with any photo collection I am planning to scrap.  I also knew what photos I wanted to scrap & believe this base paper colour would be ideal.  Here is a photo of my base papers.

The base papers consist of one American Craft Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste, three from Basic Grey's Hipster and one from Basic Grey's Carte Postale paper ranges.

Using my base papers I then set the task to pulling 12"x12" pattern paper that would coordinate.  I would hold the selection against the base paper and/or look at the colours and decide whether to include or discard.  I had already decided, for the most part, what companies I wanted to pull my selection from.  This included Basic Grey and Kaisercraft.  I then purchased some American Craft & Crate pattern paper pads for my birthday & decided I would include these.  From this I then expanded my options with more companies that I liked while going through my paper ranges.  I did not go through all my collection, but because I have a very good idea of what is in my collection I could be focused with my choices.  Below are photos of my 12"x12" pattern paper choices.

 BoBunny - Modern Miss
 Authentique - Renew
 Authentique - Gathering / Blissful
 Kaisercraft - Mis Match
 Kaisercraft - Pickled Pear
 Kaisercraft - Timeless
 Kaisercraft - Timeless

My Mind's Eye - Lost & Found II Sunshine (B side)
My Mind's Eye - Up & Away / Ooh La La / Hip & Luxurious Basics

 Basic Grey - Hipster
 Basic Grey - Carte Postale
American Crafts - Amy Tangerine Cut & Paste
 American Crafts - Best of
Create Paper - Best of / DIY
 Variety of vellum
Cork & accetate

I also knew that I would probably want to mat many of my papers on to cardstock, specifically those papers that were too thin to stand alone.  I again used my base papers to guide me on my cardstock selection.  Here is a photo of my cardstock selection.

I decided that I would do a combination of pocket style pages & traditional pages.  Therefore I raided my 6"x6" pattern papers & filled out my paper selection.  Here is a photo of the 6"x6" pattern paper pads.

SU! Patterns Pack II / SEI Dill Blossom / BoBunny Modern Miss
Authentique Gathering / Prima The Optimist / Craft Times Travel

Kaisercraft Madam Boutique / Kaisercraft Pickled Pear

I also added some glitter type paper.

Now I had my pattern paper & cardstock selected, it was just a matter of deciding what embellishments I had & wanted to include.  Below are several photos of my embellishment selection.

sequins
 wood veneer shapes
 wood veneer alphabet
 flairs
 paperclips

Cut outs from the American Craft &/or Crate paper pads

I have recently been inspired by Nancy aka Kitty Scrapper on YouTube, to include Project Life core kit cards in my layouts.  I then went through the majority, but not all, of my Project Life core kit collections.  I also included cut outs from collection packs.  Below are the photos of the 4"x6" and 3"x4" core kit cards I included in my selection.

 Simple Stories 4"x6"
Dear Lizzy 4"x6"
 Happy 4"x6"
Honey 4"x6"
 Daydreamer 4"x6"
American Crafts 4"x6"
 Kaisercraft 4"x6"
 Kaisercraft 3"x4"

Daydreamer 3"x4"

 Cut & Paste 3"x4"
 Plus One 3"x4"
 Honey 3"x4"
 Happy 3"x4"
Dear Lizzy 3"x4"

I also knew that I wanted to incorporate stamping in to my layouts.  I went through my stamp inventory & selected the stamps that I felt I would get maximum use in both traditional and pocket page scraping.  I have only included a photo of the stamp sets that I had out and not the additional ones identified in my inventory as explained in my YouTube video.  I also selected a variety of coloured inks

Stamps
Inks

Having collected my paper, cardstock, embellishments & stamps, I now needed to make some choices about stopping here or adding mists, sprays, stencils, punches etc.  I opted for the inclusion of these items.  Here are the photos of my selections.

Mists / Sprays
Punches
 Stencils / Masks
Line Templates

I think every kit should have washi tape.  I don't have a big collection but I selected several colourful options.

Every layout needs a title or some form of wording.  This meant including alphabet stickers & I've fallen in love with thickers over the previous months & knew I wanted to include them.  Apart from alphabet stickers, I also wanted general stickers.  Below are the photos of the stickers & thickers I included.

Creative Memories shape stickers
Basic Grey / Kaisercraft / Simple Stories
Doodlebug / Echo Park shape stickers
Alphabet Stickers
Thickers

I knew I had so much ribbon that it is in my best interest to try & use it up.  I decided that I would use my scrap ribbon as per what is in my ribbon pull.

Now that I have pulled my kit together, which I did over a couple of weeks, I had to identify how best to use, store & access the items that would enable me to get maximum benefit from this kit.  I set up my work desk with plastic trays that I had lying around in my garage, & put my items in there.

My hope is that you will find this post beneficial & informative & may even inspire you to make your own kit.

I will also be posting photos of each of my layouts, and at the end of June, I will then do a YouTube video show casing all the layouts I have completed using Kit #01.

If I can work out how to do process videos I may even look to include them.

If you are still with me at this point, I would like to say thank you for getting through my post & I hope it has helped you.

Cheers FiLoMa
